The SSC MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) exam is conducted in two stages:
- Paper 1: The first stage of the exam is a computer-based test (CBT) which consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The duration of the exam is 90 minutes.
The Paper 1 exam pattern is as follows:

Note: There is negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
- Paper 2: Candidates who qualify in Paper 1 are eligible to appear for the second stage of the exam which is a descriptive test. The duration of the exam is 30 minutes.
The Paper 2 exam pattern is as follows:

Note: Paper 2 is qualifying in nature, and the final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained by candidates in Paper 1.
